IPL 2021 Orange Cap: MI’s Rohit Sharma jumps to 2nd spot, PBKS’ KL Rahul back in Top 3- Mumbai Indians captain skipper Rohit Sharma has re-entered the race of IPL 2021 Orange Cap after a fighting half-century against Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Friday. His 63 off 52 balls helped Mumbai Indians post a competitive 132-run target for Punjab Kings. Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul meanwhile also reentered the Top 3 after giving the team a good start against Mumbai on Friday.
Delhi Capitals opener Shikhar Dhawan remained at the top of the Orange Cap leaderboard with 231 runs from fur matches. Earlier, RCB opening batsman Devudtt Padikkal entered the race of Orange cap after his match-winning century against RR on Thursday. He smacked a 51-ball hundred which featured 11 boundaries and six sixes.
Earlier on Wednesday, Chennai Super Kings opening batsman Faf du Plessis has entered the top 10 in the Orange Cap race. He smashed an unbeaten 95 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Wednesday.
IPL 2021 Orange Cap: Rohit Sharma in Top 2: Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma broke into the Top 2 with a fighting half-century against Punjab Kings on Friday. His first 50 of IPL 2021 not only steadied Mumbai innings but also helped the team move towards posting a competitive total.
Sunrisers Hyderabad opening Jonny Bairstow continued his top run in IPL 2021 while playing against Punjab Kings on Wednesday. The right-handed batsman smashed a fifty off 48 deliveries at Chennai’s difficult turf where PBKS were bowled out for just 120 runs. In his innings, Jonny Bairstow hit 3 fours and 6 sixes. He is placed fourth on the list.
A blistering fifty from Shikar Dhawan has taken him on top of Orange Cap leaderboard in IPL 2021. He completed his half-century off just 31 balls against Punjab Kings that included 8 boundaries. He had previously smashed an unbeaten 85 against CSK in his opening match in IPL 2021. He overtook Maxwell when he scored his 83rd run against PBKS. While he fell six runs short of his third fifty against Mumbai Indians, the 44-run knock was enough to keep his lead intact.
Rules for IPL Orange Cap
- The award is given to the leading run-scorer of the IPL season.
- The batsman with the most runs in the tournament during the season would wear the Orange Cap while in the field.
- In case of a tie, the batsman with a better strike rate is awarded the Orange Cap.
- The Orange Cap owner who is fielding is allowed to wear the Orange Cap till the end of the innings even if an opposition batsman has overtaken his runs.
