WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!
Strap on your seatbelts SunSport family because we are in for a late night treat between two HUGE southern American nations.
Don’t believe me? Then prepare to feast your eyes on who our live coverage is based on.
Current Copa America holders Brazil are hosting the winners of the 2015 and 2016 editions Chile in the heart of Rio de Janeiro at the Estadio Olimpico Nilton Santos.
Verde-Amarela have been a dominant force in South America for a while and are the nailed on favourites to defend their trophy so it was no surprise to see them top Group B with 10 points from a possible 12.
Brazil also managed to match their goals scored (10) with their points tally and with the attacking talent of Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus, Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino and PSG’s €222 million man Neymar, it’s not hard to see how.
On the other hand, despite Chile being amongst the discussions of who will lift Copa America come July 11th, La Roja have been quite disappointing up to this point.
Martin Lasarte’s men just about scraped through Group A in the final spot with only 5 points to their name.
In fairness to Chile, they didn’t suffer a defeat to either group winners Argentina or second place Uruguay and the 1-0 win over Bolivia turned out to be essential.
But the loss to Paraguay caused some areas of concern especially as the 2x winners had the better team on paper.
However form goes out the window when it comes to the knock-out stages so although Brazil are expected to progress to the semi-finals, I wouldn’t write off Chile just yet.
Stay tuned for the latest news and quotes before kick-off at 01:00am UK time, but up next is the team sheets.
