Yashpal Sharma passes away: The Indian cricket fraternity is mourning the death of World Cup winner Yashpal Sharma, who passed away after a cardiac arrest on Tuesday morning at the age of 66. Newly appointed sports minister Anurag Thakur and BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal joined VVS Laxman and other cricketers in mourning. He was hailed as the ‘Crisis Man’ by Sunil Gavaskar for his ability to anchor the innings in the middle-order.

Arun Dhumal told InsideSport that it’s an immense loss for the entire cricket fraternity.

Yashpal Sharma passes away: “It’s very sad. He has had an amazing contribution to the game of cricket. He was part of the World Cup-winning squad and he has contributed post that also as a manager, as a coach and a selector. It’s a great loss to the game of cricket and the cricket fraternity,” Arun Dhumal said.

Yashpal Sharma passes away: “Saddened by the passing away of ace cricketer & 1983 World Cup winning member Sh Yashpal Sharma. He had an illustrious career & was India’s second-highest run getter at the 1983 World Cup. He was also an umpire and national selector. His contribution won’t be forgotten,” Newly appointed sports minister Anurag Thakur, who is also the former BCCI president said.

VVS Laxman said, he is devastated by Yashpal Sharma’s loss, hailing him as one of the heroes of World Cup winning team.
