Drew Dober gets KO over Rafael Alves after barn-burning slugfest (Video)

UFC 277: Drew Dober defeated Rafael Alves.

Drew Dober defeated Rafael Alves via KO (strikes), Round 3 – 1:30 at UFC 277 on Saturday, July 30, 2022, live from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX.

“I want those fights. Hats off to Rafael Alves. The fights I say yes to are the fight that are going to be like that,” said Dober, who has previously turned down fights that he believed could be boring for the fans to watch.

The two fighters went back and forth throughout the first two rounds. Both fighters had periods where it looked like they hurt their opponent and could have finished the fight. In the third round, Dober landed a powerful body shot. Alves paused for a second or two after getting hit before dropping to the ground. Immediately, Dober saw his chance to end the fight and he did so. Dober jumped on top, landing a few extra shots before the referee stopped the fight. It took Alves a long time to recover before he returned to his feet.

Dober improved to 25-11, with one no contest in his career. With the knockout, Dober is second in UFC lightweight history with seven knockouts. Including his fight at UFC 277, seven of Dober’s last eight fights have ended in finishes. Dober will likely get a fight against a ranked opponent in his next fight.
