Florida bans selection of math text books for critical race theory reasons

“The accredited listing adopted an intensive overview of submissions on the Division, which discovered 41 p.c of the submitted textbooks had been impermissible with both Florida’s new requirements or contained prohibited subjects – probably the most in Florida’s historical past. Causes for rejecting textbooks included references to Crucial Race Idea (CRT), inclusions of Frequent Core, and the unsolicited addition of Social Emotional Studying (SEL) in arithmetic,” the division introduced.

“The best variety of books rejected had been for grade ranges Ok-5, the place an alarming 71 p.c weren’t appropriately aligned with Florida requirements or included prohibited subjects and unsolicited methods. Regardless of rejecting 41 p.c of supplies submitted, each core arithmetic course and grade is roofed with a minimum of one textbook,” the division stated.

Corcoran has been pushing the ethical panic over Crucial Race Idea.

DeSantis praised the banning of math textbooks.

“I am grateful that Commissioner Corcoran and his staff on the Division have carried out such an intensive vetting of those textbooks to make sure they adjust to the regulation,” DeSantis stated after Corcoran discovered 21% of math textbooks “incorporate prohibited subjects or unsolicited methods, together with CRT.”
