The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed Gangubai Kathiawadi has shown another jump in collections on Day 3 (Sunday) as early estimates suggest third day business in the vicinity of Rs. 15 to 15.6 crores. The film has jumped by about 17 percent on Sunday and has packed a solid punch in its three-day opening weekend.
The nett total of this Alia Bhatt film after its opening weekend run stands at approx. Rs. 39 crore plus and now all eyes are on the crucial Monday test. While weekend numbers are very impressive, surpassing all expectations, the trend from Monday to Thursday will decide if it emerges a success or not. The business on weekdays will benefit due to Maha Shivratri holiday on Tuesday, and this will also give the film some additional padding towards the Monday night shows.
The growth on Sunday has come at non national chains as well and this is a positive side. The collections were aided by the combined audience appeal of Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali and it would be unfair to credit either of the one solely for the strong weekend run.
Made on a budget of Rs. 175 to 180 crores, of which Rs. 110 crores have been recovered from satellite, digital and music revenue, it leaves Rs. 65 crore to be recovered from theatrical. A nett total of Rs. 100 crore plus in India will ensure a hit status for the movie.
