Tayla Ford in action in her quarterfinal win over Sarah Clossick.
Kiwi wrestler Tayla Ford has won her second Commonwealth Games medal after claiming bronze in Birmingham on Saturday (NZT).
The Cantabrian who hails from Nelson threw Amylee Sephora of Mauritius to the ground almost immediately, adjusted, and then pinned her opponent down.
It was all over inside 40 seconds as the Ford added a second Commonwealth medal to her collection, having also won bronze in Glasgow eight years ago.
It is also NZ’s first wrestling medal of the 2022 Games.
The multi-talented 29-year-old, who has represented New Zealand in several sports, had earlier beaten England’s Sarah Clossick in the quarterfinal before losing to Canada’s Linda Morais in the semifinal.
Meanwhile, fellow Kiwi Matthew Oxenham lost his bronze medal match against Alexander Moore of Canada in the men’s freestyle 86kg event.
Moore got Oxenham down quickly and grabbed him by the legs, spinning him over and over to claim the win.
