Man flees after attempting to rob store in Hāwera

A man who threatened a staff member with a knife at a Hāwera store took off on foot after the attempted robbery.

Police say they are looking for a man of “skinny build” who attempted to rob the Turuturu Grocery on Glover Rd just before 7pm on Saturday night.

A police spokesperson said the man fled on foot down Totara Rd without taking anything from the store.

“Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have seen the man pictured this evening.”

The man was wearing beige or brown shorts, white high-top shoes, and a dark coloured t-shirt.
