Should Green Bay trade Jordan Love in the offseason?

With the Green Bay Packers sporting a record of 8-2 following their Week 10 shutout win over the Seattle Seahawks, the focus is on this season and not the future. However, the future is coming fast and Green Bay will have to make some decisions this offseason. One of the biggest will come when they have to decide what they want to do with the quarterback situation.

All offseason long this year, the Packers dealt with brutal rumors surrounding superstar quarterback and reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. It was reported that he never wanted to play another game with the Packers, but that seems to have changed. Another successful season and Rodgers warming back up to the team could lead to a tough choice.

As every single Packers fan will know, Jordan Love is waiting in the wings for an opportunity to play. But, with Rodgers still playing at an elite level and the team looking like a Super Bowl contender every year, risking losing Rodgers may not be an option either.

With all of that being said, should the Packers consider trading Jordan Love this offseason to a quarterback needy team?

Should The Packers Consider Trading Jordan Love?

This will be the talk of the offseason for the Packers, no matter what ends up happening the rest of the season. Rodgers wants to be in Green Bay through the end of his career, but has always stated that the decision is not in his hands. Green Bay will have to decide whether they want to keep Rodgers around until he retires or make the switch to Love at some point.

Should they be leaning towards sticking with Rodgers, trading Love would make the most sense.

Granted, there are some concerns about what kind of trade value Love would have. He has played sparingly this season, but has not shocked anyone in his two games played. Love has shown signs of talent, but there is also just as good of a chance that he will never pan out to become a good NFL starting quarterback.

In the three games Love has played in, he has completed 58.5 percent of his pass attempts for 258 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also picked up 20 yards on eight attempts.

Those numbers aren’t bad, but they certainly are not impressive. Love showed just enough to keep his trade value alive, but didn’t do much to warrant a team trading a high draft pick for him. Trading Love could end up being for a mid-to-late-round pick, after the Packers traded up and spent a first-round pick on him.

Standing in at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, Love has great size for an NFL quarterback. He looks the part, but his arm needs improvement. Mainly, Love will need to work hard on improving his arm accuracy moving forward.

One thing that Love did show in his first career start against the Kansas City Chiefs is that he doesn’t fold under the pressure. He made some bad passes when the Chiefs rushed him, but he did not make many mistakes. Kansas City felt empowered to blitz more often than not due to the fact that Love is a rookie and that the Packers’ offensive line has been less than stellar this season.

With all of that being said, should the Packers consider trading Love this offseason? Absolutely, if the offer is right. They should consider moving him, but they should not force a trade just to make a move.

Sticking with Rodgers long-term would be the right decision for Green Bay. It’s apparent that he is still an elite NFL quarterback and that they should keep him in town as long as he wants to be there. Love is a talented young quarterback, but the Packers should not even think about keeping him over Rodgers.
