Wellington Phoenix believe they have managed to avoid a wider outbreak in their A-League Men squad after the two players that tested positive for Covid-19 this week returned negative results on Friday.

Coach Ufuk Talay said the two players, whose identities have been kept under wraps, would still miss Saturday’s game against Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium, as would striker Gary Hooper, who is not allowed to travel to South Australia as he has just returned from overseas.

Talay said the two players that tested positive for Covid-19 would only be allowed to return to training seven days after returning a negative test, meaning they will also miss next Wednesday’s rescheduled FFA Cup quarterfinal against Melbourne City.
